I am an educational consultant and trainer based in Scotland. I deliver CPD for teachers and lecturers throughout the UK and act as an educational consultant to local authorities and companies producing educational materials. I was the educational consultant in a major project on 'Channel 4 News' called 'Breaking the News'. In 2006 the project won a Royal Television Society award for best secondary education website. I also offer media-related customised training in any subject area where teachers would like to develop their own knowledge: Media Studies, media literacy, English, Modern Studies, Sociology, History, Modern Languages, ICT, Art and Design. I am also available to schools who would like to develop media-related activities within A Curriculum for Excellence e.g. Enterprise, Citizenship, Sustainable Development, Creativity. I was a member of the Forrester Media Group which in 1980 pioneered the development of media studies in Scotland. A founder member of AMES (Association for Media Education in Scotland) I am a regular contributor to its Media Education Journal. I have helped design media courses for colleges of education as well as the Scottish Qualifications Authority Media Studies Arrangements for all levels from Access to Advanced Higher. Until January 2005, I was Principal Teacher of Computing and Media Studies at Lasswade High School Centre, Midlothian. I was director of the University of Edinburgh Film Studies Summer School for 13 years and I am a British Film Institute Associate Tutor, a Learning and Teaching Scotland registered CPD provider and an Associate Tutor with the University of Edinburgh's Moray House School of Education. Currently I combine business with teaching mathematics part-time at James Gillespie's High School, Edinburgh. |
